Improving lives and building community in Colchester County

Funding Support for Community Programs

The United Way of Colchester has announced that it will be investing over $230,000 of funding in 14 organizations in Colchester and Cumberland counties to support critical work being done to reduce the impacts of local poverty. This funding investment is made possible thanks to the generous contributions of United Way donors.

These program grants support the United Way’s goals of helping children and youth thrive both in and out of school, supporting individuals struggling with homelessness, improving the mental health of the province’s most vulnerable individuals and families, and creating strong inclusive communities where everyone can thrive.

Recipients of the funding include Cumberland County Transportation Services (CCTS), Maggie’s Place Colchester and Cumberland and the Sexual Health Centre of Cumberland County. New recipients this year include Cumberland Homelessness Housing Support Association (CHHSA), North Shore Community Connections, Truro Pride Society and a new program at Third Place Transition House.

“Every year we aim to be more equitable in our funding process,” says Raj Makkar, Board Chair, United Way of Colchester. “There are many great initiatives happening across both counties and it is exciting to play a part in creating accessible communities. We could not show up in community without the help of donors who put their trust in United Way and offer ongoing support.”
