United Way of Colchester Special Members Meeting

A Special Meeting of Members for United Way of Colchester County will be held on May 29, 2024 at 5:30 pm at United Way of Colchester County’s office and virtually for those who cannot attend in person.  The purpose of this Special Members Meeting is to adopt the motions required to bring together United Way of Colchester County with six other United Way organizations located in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island under a new regional organization.

On May 1, 2023, each of the seven boards of directors voted in favour of a resolution to proceed with the due diligence and planning required to combine the organizations into a single new entity. Now it is required that the members adopt motions authorizing United Way of Colchester County to transfer its property to the new regional organization and dissolve.

Unification will create a larger, stronger entity that will be better positioned to strengthen local impact and relationship building, share data, results and programming to grow community impact and implement new systems and technologies, like customer relationship management and fundraising platforms, more effectively and at less cost.

A unified United Way will also reach Maritime-wide donors more clearly with a shared brand strategy and stories of impact, and over time, increase the donor base and fundraising results to address the growing needs in our communities.

Collectively, we recognize collaboration and deliberate sharing of resources will help us focus on our core purpose work, community impact. We will be stronger together.

The new entity has been designed to ensure local raised dollars as well as funding decisions stay local. United Ways are absolutely committed to maintaining the trust of their local communities – that has always been a foundational tenant of who we are and our work.  The new regional entity will protect and elevate ties to the local communities and increase impact by bringing more resources to community through shared effort.

The legal and financial requirements in order to bring United Way of Colchester County into the new regional entity can be viewed here.
