The United Way of Colchester County Elves for Elders program returns to the area for its eighth year on November 21, 2022. Every year, senior care facilities and other agencies throughout Colchester county identify seniors who are isolated at the holidays. Gift tags are put on trees throughout the community for the public to choose from to purchase gifts for seniors over the holidays.
Classic Rentals started their partnership with the Elves for Elders program back in 2019 as a program sponsor. Since then, they have increased their financial support of the program, while also acting as one of the Giving Tree locations, where customers and community members can select a tag to support a senior in need over the holidays.
“We decided to take a more active role in supporting Elves for Elders because it is a way to let seniors in our community know that ‘we see them’ and that we care,” says Nancy Crosby, co-owner of Classic Rentals. “A simple gift and even a card can touch someone who has no family or is lonely – someone who has worked, raised a family and even volunteered in our community, helping shape it to what it is today. Having a giving tree in our business allows others to easily reach out and show their love and appreciation to our valued community elders as well.”
New this year, the United Way of Colchester is partnering with Truro Buzz to include greeting cards in each of the gifts as part of the Truro Buzz Holiday Senior Drive. Also, the new drop off location for gifts this year is Elegant Steps in downtown Truro. As Campaign Co-Chair for this year’s United Way of Colchester Community Campaign, owner Karen Baillie saw it as an excellent opportunity to further support seniors in the community.
“We always have community at the centre of our business, particularly over the holidays,” says, Baillie. “Seniors are such a large part of what makes our community vibrant, so it was a perfect fit for us to get involved with Elves for Elders this year.”
With the support of the Elves for Elders program partners and generous community members, the United Way of Colchester will be delivering 200 gifts to seniors throughout Colchester County during the month of December.
